Tape Dispenser by Joost Wever

In my previous post, I mentioned 10 hot Dutch designers. In this post, I thought I'd feature one product from one designer, and in the future explore the list more closely. This product is a tape dispenser by Joost Wever. It's hard to put my finger on, but this design is very Dutch. Why, you ask? For starters, I look at this object and am reminded of one of the Netherlands' most famous designers Gerrit Rietveld. His paradigm was severe lines and bold bright colors which this tape dispenser falls into this tradition.

But what makes the tape dispenser completely Dutch for me is the cleverness of how the roll of tape is held into place. The designer has recognized the physical properties of the tape and used that to defy logic and gravity ( a common Dutch design characteristic). I have examples of how this logic defying tradition has evolved, but honestly, you don't want to read a long, boring discussion.

Maybe most importantly, it's really really cool.
