Even before Chicago licensed the Cows Parade concept from Switzerland and launched the North American debut of the exhibit several years ago, there was plenty of inspired outdoor brilliance. The truth is, by the time the artfully painted cows started appearing in major cities all over the country,
we had all but shut our eyes to the stunning array of benches,
fountains and lights that were natural backdrops our outdoor landscape.
Sure, the last place you expect to see a purple, life-size cow wearing
pearls, earrings and a Pucci top is on the downtown office promenade.
Still, the novelty fizzled. Luckily, our trusted street structures
remain equally as dazzling and far more useful. A brilliant compilation
of these creative outdoor accessories can be found in Links
International‘s new book Street Furniture. The book is chock full of
photos and details installation processes, materials and finishes. Very
cool.
