Restoration Hardware Launches Brocade Home Brand

By Holly Becker, decor8

Have you heard? There's a new sister company coming to town from Restoration Hardware. They call themselves Brocade Home, and from the photos, it seems as there's a growing interest in this trend, modern baroque, eh? Take a peek at their press release below. Their PR group told me that catalogs are due to mail mid September, so visit them online to sign up for yours. No news of brick and mortar stores yet, I assume they're waiting to see if this catches on or not before jumping in over their head. I'm interested myself, especially in the quality and of course, their prices.

Restoration Hardware Launches Brocade Home Brand

AUGUST 15, 2006 -- Restoration Hardware Inc., Corte Madera, Calif., will launch its new brand, Brocade Home, in September with the mailing of a home catalog. Brocade Home was developed by Lisa Versacio who joined Restoration Hardware from Williams-Sonoma, where she helped launch the West Elm brand. Versacio describes the new brand as a fuse between past and present, with rich fabrics and materials. "We are excited about the introduction of Brocade Home, a fashion home brand targeted at the broader value market with a unique and feminine point of view," said Gary Friedman, president, CEO and chairman of the company. Friedman also said the company plans to develop a multichannel retailing platform over the next several years.

You can preview the brand and request a catalog on their website, Brocade Home.

The New York Gift Show IV

The New York International Gift Fair was in full swing again last week. Lot's of old, some new and some the same.

There weren't tons of new that we saw that blew us away. There were some great new items from people that are well known (OFFI, angela adams, Amenity Home, thomaspaul and notneutral). There were a lot of things that we had seen before and then, of course, the over-abundance of nic-nacs in chachkeeville (the rest of the NYIGF).

Perhaps the most exciting news is that one of our favorite designers, thomaspaul, is back with some wonderful new pillows:

Thomaspaul I really loved this color mix.

Thomaspaul_pillows Ditto

Thomaspaul_plates New tp plates that got a lot of attention.

Get Those Creative Juices Flowing!

By: Holly Becker, decor8. Feel lost at your day job? Looking for some creative inspiration?

Marisa Haedike, an artist and designer in LA, contacted me recently about her company, Creative Thursday. Marisa has had her hands in everything from furniture and bedding design to graphic and web design, however she decided to follow her heart back to painting, something she has had a genuine passion for since childhood. Seeing other painters with blogs featuring daily and weekly works, Marisa decided to start a daily painting blog , selling small original acrylic paintings with new ones posting every week on Thursdays.

But we're just getting started here...

In addition to her paintings, Marisa has her own podcast show weekly called Creative Thursday "Looking at life through rose colored glasses". She creates a mini "documentary" with each audio program. It's all about living the creative life and going for what you want. I listened to Episode 10 "In the Beginning" last night and really enjoyed it; it felt like she was speaking from a script that I wrote - we have so much in common. I'm sure you'll say the same thing after you listen in. It's nice when you hear something that so closely relates to your own life, beliefs, dreams. Of course,  she throws in tips and ideas that you may have never thought of, too.

Take a moment to listen in on a few of her podcast shows and let us know what you think. This is a new venture for her, so I'm sure she's also interested in your opinions and suggestions.

Show Me The Money! UK Artist: Justine Smith

By: Holly Becker, decor8

When it comes to interesting graphics and unique design, Justine Smith is right on the money! This London-based artist has a total green theme going on, not eco-green, we're talking bling bling green. She creates a series of sculptures covered in cold hard cash! "At once a visual pun, these works also explore our relationship with that most ubiquitous aspect of life and our responce to it, either in a political, moral or philosophical sense, as well as emphasising the physical beauty of the note." Justine says.

Money aside, she is particularly known for her ongoing series of dog sculptures which are meticulously formed from chicken-wire and plaster. When the sculpture is complete, she collages over it forming one snazzy pup!
In addition to her sculptures and works on paper, Justine also creates these beautiful wall-mounted paper contructions that I'm in love with. I can totally see these in a contemporary or even a vintage modern home. She uses paper pieces to form these beautiful butterflies. So pretty!

Curious for more? Learn all about  Justine here.
